Telematics is the convergence of technologies related to wireless communication, location detection and in-vehicle sensing electronics to aid the secured information flow from the vehicles to back-end network for control and management functions, or from the cloud to the vehicles with respect to pushing data like maps, browser data, etc., while maintaining secure channel of communication. The device thus controls wireless tracking, communication and diagnostics to and from the vehicle.

Interfacing with various in-vehicle data and control bus, scalability to emerging wireless technologies, meeting power & cost efficiency and at the same time ensuring the data safety & security are some of the key challenges in designing an automotive telematics control unit.
